About Dr Bryan McDonald Consultant Dermatologist
Dr Bryan McDonald is a highly regarded UK-trained consultant dermatologist based in London, originally from Northern Ireland, who offers expert, compassionate, and discreet care for both adults and children with skin conditions. He is known for his holistic approach, taking time to understand how skin disease affects each patient’s quality of life as well as their physical health. He has a particular and nationally recognised specialist interest in male genital (penoscrotal) dermatology, providing expert assessment and management of sensitive and complex conditions in a professional, reassuring environment. Patients value his calm, clear explanations and his ability to manage difficult or long-standing problems with evidence-based, personalised treatment plans.
Dr McDonald studied medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast, where he was awarded the Dr Henry Hutchinson-Stewart Medical Scholarship. He initially trained as a General Practitioner, achieving Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners with the top pass in Northern Ireland, alongside specialist postgraduate diplomas in Geriatric Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Family Planning, Occupational Medicine and Practical Dermatology. His years in general practice, including time as a GP Partner, shaped the patient-centred philosophy that underpins his dermatology practice today. He later obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, before completing higher specialist dermatology training on the Royal Free Hospital London rotation.
Following completion of specialist training, Dr McDonald was appointed Consultant Dermatologist at The Royal London Hospital, where he delivered care across all areas of dermatology, including skin cancer assessment, skin surgery, complex medical dermatology, and paediatric dermatology. He was previously Paediatric Dermatology Lead for a tertiary referral service and established a tertiary complex acne / hidradenitis suppurativa service. He has also led specialist male genital dermatology services at both Barts Health NHS Trust and West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, reflecting his expertise in this highly specialised field. He is President of the British Society for the Study of Penoscrotal Dermatology, highlighting his national leadership in male genital skin disease.
